All-New Ram vs. Classic: Get to Know the Ram Trucks
What is the Ram Classic? The Ram 1500 Classic is a reiteration of the previous model year of the Ram 1500. The much-talked-about truck made its debut in 2012 and has gone through a few upgrades over the years. The Ram 1500 Classic is similar to the previous model year Ram 1500, with the addition of a “Classic” badge added to the exterior, and has four trim levels available. The Classic is offered with three packages:
- Warlock: Pairs with the Tradesman trim and offers a rugged exterior style with a variety of exterior color options to make it stand out on the roads, 17-inch wheels, chrome bumpers, carpeted floor coverings, and remote keyless entry.
- Tradesman SXT Package: Offers the body-color front fascia and chrome bumpers, as well as fog maps, dual exhaust for V8 configurations, 20-inch wheels, and a 5-inch radio screen. The Tradesman is ready to work and get the job done right!
- Express Black Accent: Pairs with the Express trim and includes black headlight bezels, black wheels, and black badges. If you want a powerful performance with loads of features, the Express is the pickup truck for you.
The all-new Ram 1500 is the most recent model year, and it comes equipped with a large variety of features like a 12-inch touchscreen. With six trim levels, a range of configurations, and standard features, you can truly customize your truck for work or for fun.
Ram 1500 vs. 1500 Classic: Engines & Towing
The Classic model offers three engine choices: the standard 3.6L Pentastar V6 and the 5.7L HEMI® V8 engine. The All-New model also runs on the 5.7L HEMI® V8, as well as offers other engine options like the 5.7L HEMI® with eTorque, 3.6L Pentastar® V6 with eTorque, and the 3.0L EcoDiesel V6. Both truck models are available with either a 4×2 or a 4×4 drivetrain.
As for towing the All-New Ram 1500 is able to tow about 20% more than the Ram 1500 Classic. The all-new model can tow up to 12,750 pounds, and the Classic can tow up to 10,680 pounds when equipped with the 5.7L HEMI® V8 engine.
Ram 1500 vs. 1500 Classic: Cab and Bed Options
There are three cab options for the Ram 1500 Classic: Regular, Quad, and Crew. For now, the All-New Ram 1500 offers just a Quad or Crew Cab.
There are three available bed options with the Ram Classic. The standard is a 6-foot-4-inch bed, or you can choose a 5-foot-7-inch bed or an 8-foot bed. Like with the cab options, the All-New Ram truck removes the 8-foot option. This model is also made of a lighter frame, so it has an overall lighter weight than the Classic.
