All-New Ram 1500 vs. Ram 1500 Classic
There’s a reason that the Ram 1500 is one of the most popular light-duty trucks in the U.S. In fact, it’s the 2019 Motor Trend truck of the year. We know truck drivers from Chatham to Decatur are always interested in what’s happening with this pickup, so we’ve got great news for you. There are two different 2019 Ram 1500 trucks to choose from.
Get to Know the Ram Trucks
The 2019 Ram 1500 Classic is a reiteration of the previous model year. This Ram truck debuted in 2012 and has gone through a few upgrades over the years. The Ram 1500 Classic is similar to an updated 2018 Ram 1500 with the addition of a “Classic” badge added to the exterior, and it’s available in four trim levels. The Classic is offered with three packages:
- Chrome Plus: Pairs with the Tradesman trim and provides a body-color upper front fascia, 17-inch wheels, chrome bumpers, carpeted floor coverings, and remote keyless entry
- Tradesman SXT package: Offers the body-color front fascia and chrome bumpers, as well as fog maps, dual exhaust for V8 configurations, 20-inch wheels, and a 5-inch radio screen
- Express Black Accent: Pairs with the Express trim and includes black headlight bezels, black wheels, and black badges.
There’s also the All-New Ram 1500, which is the most recent model year. It offers a range of updated features, including a 12-inch touchscreen. It’s available in six trim levels with a wide array of available configurations, so you can truly customize your truck for work or for fun.
Ram 1500 Performance
The Classic model offers three engine choices. The standard engine is a 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine, and there’s also a 5.7L HEMI V8 engine, and a 3.0L V6 EcoDiesel engine. The All-New model runs on the 5.7L HEMI V8. Both truck models are available with either a 4×2 or a 4×4 drivetrain.
As for towing the All-New Ram 1500 is able to tow about 20% more than the Ram 1500 Classic. The All-New model tows up to 12,750 pounds, and the Classic tows up to 10,410 pounds.
Ram 1500 Cab and Bed Options
There are three cab options for the Ram 1500 Classic: Regular, Quad, and Crew. For now, the All-New Ram 1500 offers just a Quad or Crew cab.
The Classic also provides three bed options to choose from. The standard is a 6-foot-4-inch bed, or you can choose a 5-foot-7-inch bed or an 8-foot bed. Like with the cab options, the All-New Ram truck removes the 8-foot option. This model is also made of a lighter frame, so it has an overall lighter weight than the Classic.
Ram 1500 Pricing
Both of these Ram 1500 trucks have fairly affordable starting prices. As the more basic of the two, the Ram 1500 Classic starts at a lower price of $27,295 MSRP. The All-New Ram 1500 starts at $31,695 MSRP, so there’s only about a $4,600 difference between their two starting costs, due in large part to the difference in truck cabs.
