Who doesn’t like a RAM truck? Our Chatham customers sure do! They know they can count on RAM pickups to work as hard as they do. But how do you know if the RAM 1500 or 2500 is right for you? We’ve got you covered at Green Dodge in Springfield. We’ve put together a detailed side-by-side comparison of the 2020 RAM 1500 vs. RAM 2500 base models. The good news is that you can’t go wrong regardless of which of these pickups you choose!
Those who are more budget-conscious will probably choose the new RAM 1500. Its starting MSRP comes in at $32,145, which is a little less than the 2500 at $33,895. Either way, you’ll want to check out our current specials to get the best deal.
Whether you’re buying the 1500 or 2500, there are a variety of powerful engine options available to you. However, the more powerful options belong to the new RAM 2500. Even the standard engine for the base model is impressive. It’s a 6.7L diesel V6. In comparison, the standard engine on the 1500 base model is a 3.0L diesel V6. Ultimately, you’ll get more horsepower from the 2500: 370 hp compared to 260 hp from the 1500.
Both of these workhorses can haul and tow some impressive weight. For the toughest industrial jobs or hauling fifth-wheel trailers, you’ll probably want to go with the 2500. Its maximum towing capacity is an incredible 19,780 lbs. The 1500 can’t tow quite as much but is no slouch, either! 2020 RAM 1500 models can tow a hefty 7,730 pounds. Payload capacity is much the same story: 4,050 lbs from the 2500 compared to 2,300 lbs from the 1500. Most of our Rochester customers can get by just fine with the 1500, but for handling the biggest loads, you’ll want to go with the 2500.
It honestly boils down to what’s most important to you. The RAM 1500 is more budget-friendly while still featuring a great deal of power, not to mention user-friendly features, while the RAM 2500 has more power all around but comes in at a higher price tag. You’ll have to weigh price vs. capability to make the final call.
Regardless of whether you choose the 2020 RAM 1500 or 2500, we make it easy for you to get behind the wheel of your next work truck. Compare the RAM 3500 specs to those of the RAM 2500 to find out which has the payload and towing power you require.
